FDA and KFA Alerts & News At Your Fingertips

When your primary medical treatment is avoidance of your food allergens, you depend on accurate and complete food labeling to make good 'buy' vs. 'do not buy' decisions for your safety and well being.

US Food Labeling Can Leave You Wanting More...

When you have food allergies, you need to read the food label on every product you put in your shopping cart, even if you have purchased it before. Manufacturers change up ingredients and manufacturing processes all the time.

Food labels can be hard to read, too. Lots of ingredients and technical terminology, as well as confusing and unregulated Precautionary Allergen Labeling (PAL) further muddy the waters when you're trying to decide if a product is safe to eat. Or, not!

But, there is a third layer of complexity you need to be aware of.

From time to time food manufacturers, producers, and US food regulators recall food products that have been distributed to stores.

Reasons can vary from undeclared allergens or allergen contamination, to bacterial contamination, to foreign matter contamination, to improper inspection of imported ingredients. As an example, just recently:

  • The FDA announced that a manufacturer recalled a Poppy Seed Dressing for bacterial contamination

  • The FDA announced that a dairy farm recalled Whole Chocolate Milk because it was not 'effectively pasteurized'

  • The FDA announced that a gourmet foods company issued an alert on undeclared sulfites, coconut and FD&C Yellow#5 in a Coriander Chutney.

  • KFA Alerts issued a milk allergy alert on Weis $7 Crab Cake Meal

It's easy to miss an alert on a product you may have purchased or may be thinking about purchasing.

Not anymore.
